The City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs
present an American Premiere of
The Long Struggle
This is the first English translation of an epic poem by Nazim Hikmet, Turkey's greatest 20th Century poet. The Long Struggle speaks to the experiences of the common people during Turkey's long War of Independence. This presentation represents a special opportunity for the acclaimed ShawChicago ensemble to work under the direction of Bozkurt Kuruc, an actor in the original Turkish production. The staged reading style that has been used to interpret the works of Bernard Shaw will bring the words of this important writer to the attention of the American public.
